EDUCATION IS COMPULSORY
Parents and guardians are required to ensure that children are registered as students and begin school on the first school day of the month after they turn four years old. This obligation continues until the end of the academic year in which the
child turns sixteen and obtains a starting qualification. Typically, this occurs after completing at least twelve academic years of education. If a student has not obtained a starting qualification by age sixteen, they must continue their education
or follow a combined learning and working path until they achieve a qualification or turn eighteen.
LEAVE OF ABSENCE
In special circumstances, students may be granted additional leave of up to 10 school days per academic year. Requests for extra leave must be submitted to the Directeur-bestuurder at least two weeks in advance and will not be granted during the first two weeks after the summer holiday. It is important to use this leave mindfully, as it can only be requested once. For example, if a child participates in a sports competition, parents cannot request additional leave afterward. For requests exceeding ten days, the Truancy Officer will determine whether leave can be approved. These requests must be submitted eight weeks in advance.
| Even a single day of absence can disrupt a student’s learning! |
ATTENDANCE REQUIREMENTS
Students are required to attend all classes. Absences are recorded in our digital system, Presentis, which distinguishes between authorized and unauthorized absenteeism. Failure to notify the school of a child’s absence will result in an unauthorized absence being recorded, which is reported to the Truancy Officer. High absenteeism may lead to consequences such as detention, warning letters, suspension, fines, or referral to the Prosecutor/Judge. School starts at 7:15 AM; late arrivals will be logged in the digital tracking system upon entering class.
REPORTING ABSENCES
If a student cannot attend school, parents or guardians should contact the school administration at (+599) 416 3270 between
7 AM to 8 AM to explain the absence. This must be done each day the student is absent. Students are not permitted to leave the school grounds without permission from management.
If a student feels ill during the school day, parents or guardians will be contacted before the student is sent home. Students must report to the Department Leader to receive a signed permission letter, which they must present to the school administration. The School Secretary will contact the parents, and a bus pass will be issued for transportation arrangements. If the school cannot reach the parents, the student will remain in school until contact is made.
Unauthorized absenteeism of 16 hours or more over four consecutive weeks will be reported to the Truancy Officer.
